Performance
To monitor and improve the service you require to collect data, this brings
us on to the P in our FCAPS.To manage a network effectively you require the ability
to track short and long term network and systems statistics. The collected data
which may include this like;
- utilisation
- errors
- response times
- availability
can all be valuable pieces of data when trying to identify network trends and
consider capacity planning. Once you understand what your network looks like
in normal operation you can start to look at proactive fault management,
i.e. if errors start to deviate from normal generate a fault, this may allow
you to fix a potential problem before it actually occurs. The benefits of this
are pretty obvious, a good base line of data is required to achieve these
type of things, you should be looking at a minimum of 6 weeks to understand how
you network lives and breaths.
