Security Management

Security

Security Management, the S in FCAPS, is the process concerned with ensuring legitimate use, maintaining confidentiality, data integrity and auditability. Security is a big issue, but always with costs attached. These costs can involve extra processing (e.g. for encryption, authentication), extra administration (e.g. setting up user IDs, monitoring for security breaches etc), extra hardware (e.g. firewalls, fibre-optic cable instead of easily tapped wires) and a host of semi-intangibles such as convenience or lack of it which can affect the ability of users to perform their work effectively.
